Prepare for your next big race from 5km to ultra distance, with this strength training class designed to compliment your running plan, or simply improve your efficiency and help prevent injury.
Strength Training for Runners classes are progressive, running specific classes, designed to help you become a stronger, more resilient athlete. Starting Wednesday 10th May at 8pm, giving an ideal lead in time for any runner aiming for an Autumn race such as the Irish Life Dublin Marathon.
Strength Training for Runners:
- helps prevent injury by improving muscle and connective tissue strength
- develops muscle endurance and power
- it helps improve running economy and speed
- offsets bone and muscle density loss associated with the natural aging process, that can lead to injury over time
- is for any runner who wants make a positive impact on their training, not just those with upcoming race plans
Despite the many benefits, runners often avoid strength work because of misinformation and common mistakes such as:
- the fear that strength training will make them slower
- believing that strength training is going to be too time consuming or complicated
- thinking that only elite athletes benefit from strength training
Many runners do their strength work at the wrong intensity, not lifting heavy enough to gain strength and turning every workout into a cardio session. This takes them outside the 80/20 intensity balance proven to improve fitness and performance. Very often runners use modalities that aren’t specific enough to the mechanics of running, and don’t stay consistent long enough, to see the benefits.
What does Strength Training for Runners involve?
Join us in a small group setting, where you will have lots of contact time with your coach, be guided through your exercises, and take the guesswork out of strength training. You will be training at the right intensity and volume, with a balanced combination of:
- strengthening the prime movers including the quads, glutes, calves and hamstrings
- plyometrics to improve power and performance
- stability of the joints, mobility and balance to help prevent injury
You can choose to do one class per week and join our Wednesday 8pm class alone, or two classes per week or pair it with another general strength class.
The cost is €55 for one class a week, or €95 for two classes per week, based on a 28 day recurring payment via out booking system LegitFit.
The timetable can be viewed here. Or, if you’re not sure if it’s right for you, try our 28 day No Commitment 4 Class Pass.
